Hello, I have been hydrologist since 2008. I manage consultancy in hydrology subjects, mostly hydropower plants, Irrigation water channels and dams, Flood risk in huge rivers like Guayas, Napo and San Miguel rivers in Ecuador, and a big number of bridges and culverts to drain traffic paths. As you can see my workplace are the rivers.

The main challenges in designing, prioritizing, and implementing Nature‑based Solutions for flood risk mitigation is to influence in the decisions of politicians. They decide mostly wrong and waste the public money.

Hi Margarita, Thank you! We agree that one of the biggest challenges is often not the lack of technical solutions, but the difficulty of translating scientific evidence into decisions that can be understood, accepted, and implemented by policymakers and other stakeholders. In many cases, decision-makers are required to balance multiple social, economic, and political priorities, which can make it difficult to communicate the long-term benefits of Nature-based Solutions.

This is one of the challenges that WaterProof aims to address. Beyond identifying where Nature-based Solutions may be most effective, the platform helps quantify their benefits in terms of flood-risk reduction, avoided damages, and economic performance. By translating hydrological processes into indicators and financial metrics, WaterProof can help strengthen conversations with planners, government agencies, and potential funders.

Thank you for contributing to the discussion. We look forward to learning from your experiences throughout the course, and hopefully to future opportunities for collaboration.
